Mannux is back in business

If you have been watching my Twitter then you may already know that Mannux is now back in development. This has been my number 1 project I’ve always wanted to complete, and I finally feel like I’m ready to take it on again. I wanted to summarize the progress so far and talk about what is to come.

I am working with Jeff Brooks on this project, and he has been great at helping to kickstart it. It is being redone from scratch in the Godot game engine, and so far it has been proving to be an excellent choice, as features are being built both quickly and fairly easily. We are still using art assets from the ika version, so it will not take long to be back up to par with what the ika version offered. The main difference from ika is the game will now be running in a widescreen resolution - and most importantly, it will be portable to just about every platform that Godot supports.

Tabby’s basic moveset is already about 80% of the way done. We have working running, jumping, aiming/shooting on all angles, wall jumps, working slopes, and more. There is still air shooting and tweaking to the shot locations to be done, but that’s fairly trivial at this point. On top of that, we also have transitions between rooms, the start of doors, a dialog system (using the very nice Dialogic plugin!), a prototype automap system, and enemies that you can both kill and be hurt by. All basic engine stuff, but most of this came just within the last few weeks.

I included a preview of playing through our test environment. Much more to come, and looking forward to even prettier things to show in the future!

This looks super cool!
I too am hoping to make a metroidvania in a similar vein, and it's good to hear Godot is relatively easy to use. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm trying to learn!
